Katsina, Nigeria – Bandits who recently attacked the General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have demanded a ransom of N540 million for the release of a nurse and several other victims abducted during the incident. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, left a medical doctor, Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, and another individual with gunshot injuries.

Among those abducted is Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, an Assistant Director of Nursing Services and head of the hospital’s nursing section. A family source revealed that the kidnappers are demanding N270 million for his release. Additionally, another N270 million ransom has been requested for the other hospital staff and several workers from a nearby fertilizer factory who were also abducted during the attack.

“Though we have made noticeable progress in reducing these attacks, this incident reminds us that our mission is not complete,” the governor said. “We are implementing additional security measures, including enhanced personnel presence at healthcare facilities throughout Katsina State. The safety of our healthcare workers and residents remains our paramount concern.”

A government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that efforts are underway to secure the release of the captives unharmed. Authorities are said to be exploring all possible measures to resolve the situation.

The attack highlights the ongoing challenges posed by banditry in Katsina State, despite intensified efforts by security agencies to address the menace.
