Abuja, Nigeria – The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has appointed 16 new directors to head various departments as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen regulatory oversight.

The appointments, which took effect on March 3, come at a crucial time when the apex bank is working to implement key monetary policies, enhance financial stability, and improve its supervisory functions. This move aligns with the broader reforms introduced under the leadership of CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, who has prioritized strengthening the bank’s institutional framework to ensure economic stability.

The newly appointed directors will oversee strategic departments, playing critical roles in policy formulation, financial regulation, and operational management. Among them, Jide-Samuel Avbasowamen has been named Director of the Information Technology Department, while Abdullahi Hamisu takes charge of the Banking Services Department. Ojumu Adenike has been appointed Director of the Medical Services Department, and Makinde Olanrewaju will lead the Procurement and Support Services Department.

In the financial policy and supervision segment, Sike Ijeoma will head the Financial Policy and Regulation Department, while Isa-Olatinwo Aisha has been appointed Director of the Consumer Protection Department. Oboh Victor Ugbem will now oversee the Monetary Policy Department, which plays a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s economic direction.

Furthermore, Nakorji Musa will lead the Trade and Exchange Department, Yusuf Rakiya will supervise the Payments System Supervision Department, and Vincent Modesola will head the Strategy Management and Innovation Department. Farouk Muhammad has been appointed to oversee the Reserve Management Department, while Akinwunmi Olubukola Akinniyi takes charge of the Banking Supervision Department.

The apex bank also appointed Solaja Mohammed-Jamiu as Director of the Other Financial Institutions’ Supervision Department (OFISD), Hassan Umar as Director of the Development and Finance Institutions Supervision Department, and Adedeji Adetona as head of the Currency Operations and Branch Management Department. Additionally, Okpanachi Moses will serve as Director of the Statistics Department.

This wave of appointments reflects the CBN’s commitment to strengthening its governance structure and improving its capacity to oversee Nigeria’s financial system effectively.
