Bayelsa State Government Lifts Employment Ban in Civil Service

The Bayelsa State Government has officially lifted the ban on new employment within the state’s civil service. This announcement, made on Tuesday, was signed by Dr. Stanley Sokari, the Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission.

The new directive allows interested individuals to submit their applications to the commission, with a deadline set for March 21, 2025. Applicants are instructed to address their letters to the Chairman of the Bayelsa Civil Service Commission and must include essential information such as the desired position, age, gender, hometown, local government area, as well as details on qualifications, relevant professional certificates, and work experience.

The previous employment embargo was enacted following the recruitment of 1,000 graduates during the tenure of former Governor Seriake Dickson. This decision was primarily driven by concerns regarding the state’s escalating monthly wage expenses, even amid allegations of clandestine hiring that were reported during that period.

According to the announcement, “His Excellency, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has graciously approved the recruitment of qualified indigenes of Bayelsa State into the civil service. Interested and eligible candidates are encouraged to submit well-crafted application letters to the Bayelsa Civil Service Commission for consideration.”
