Ahead of the Ondo 2020 gubernatorial polls, the governorship debate held last night at the State capital in Akure for candidates to discuss issues around governance and development in the state.

During the 2020 governorship debate organized by Channels Television in partnership with Civil Society Elections Situation Room, UK AID and the UK Commonwealth development office, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede and the candidate for the All Progressives Congress and incumbent governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu shared their development plans and programmes and how they hope to achieve these plans for their people.

Addressing the issue on why he wants to be governor, Eyitayo, a Senior Advocate said his private and public sector experience makes him stand out from all other candidates and that it is time for a more holistic, honest and practical view of governance in the state.

The APC Candidate and Incumbent governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu also expressed his intentions to seek re-election in order to consolidate the developmental strides he has made so far particularly with the emergence of the Amotekun security outfit which has greatly curbed security challenges in the state.

Ondo became the first state in the southwest to launch the Amotekun outfit following calls for an urgent end to the security challenges in the region. The governor explained that the state government has thoroughly trained operatives of the security outfit, noting that they will deliver in tackling the security challenges faced by the state and the region.

On Saturday, October 10, the people of Ondo State will head to the polls to vote for the governor who will lead the affairs of the state in the next four years.
