#EndSARS: Governors assure cops of welfare

Benin City, Nigeria – The Edo state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has assured the police in the state that the government will handle the medical expenses and hospital bills of policemen injured following the #EndSARS protest in the state

The governor disclosed this and gave the assurance while speaking with senior police officers as well as inspectorates of rank and file during meetings held with them at the Government House and the State Police command headquarters all in Benin City, the state’s capital.

Mr Obaseki also assured the police that they are loved by the Edo people and encouraged them not to be depressed by the recent happenings in the state.

The state government invited the police operatives to a meeting following the situation where hoodlums hijacked the #EndSARS protest that also led to the prison break in the state.

The governor further reminded the police that the original #EndSARS protesters meant well.

“The fact that some police men in uniforms have abused their office and don’t have the proper training, does not mean all officers are inept”. Obaseki said.

Similarly, the governor and his team visited the state police command in order to commiserate with them for the losses and also to boost their morale.

In responding to the governor, the Edo state police commissioner, CP Johnson Kokumo, recounted some of the losses encountered by the state police command while making an appeal for the government to come to the aid of the command in rebuilding the burnt police divisions and providing them with patrol vehicles.

The governor assured that the state government will now proceed immediately to rebuild the damaged police divisions and provide patrol vans that are already being procured by the state government promising that delivery will be done in a couple of weeks.

The governor encouraged them to boldly take their place in society and put crime where it belongs.

Makinde earmarks 500 Million Naira fund for compensation

The Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, in a visit to the State Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force in the state capital has pledged to compensate families of slain policemen during the #EndSARS protest.

The governor made the assurance noting that the compensation will be done from the already earmarked 500 million naira fund to already in place to take care of victims of police brutality and injustice in the state.

The government also pledged to work together with the police and not allow them walk alone in the fight to ensure a safe and secure the state for residents.

Makinde also encouraged the cops to put behind them the recent occurrences in the state that emanated from the #EndSARS protest and join forces with government to rebuilding the state and create a peaceful society for all.

Wike Fulfils pledged 20 million naira for families of police and soldiers

In the same vein, the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has fulfilled his promise of a 20 million naira compensation each for the families of soldiers and policemen who were reportedly killed by members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples Organization of Biafra (IPOB) in Oyigbo area of the state during the #EndSARS protest.

The governor has also denied claims that he ordered the killings in Oyigbo and described the allegation as misleading and that he is not responsible.

Wike stated this in a meeting where he had a conversation with traditional rulers of non-indigenes resident in Rivers State at the government house in Port Harcourt.

The governor, however, insisted that the Indigenous Peoples Organization of Biafra (IPOB) will not have a place in Rivers State.
