The Executive Governors of Rivers State and Ogun State, Barr. Nyesom Wike and Dr. Dapo Abiodun have presented before their state assemblies the state’s 2021 budget respectively.
Accompanied by officials of the State Executive Council, Nyesom Wike presented the state’s 2021 budget estimate of 448.7 Billion Naira to the Rivers State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
The governor says that the appropriation bill tagged “Budget of Recovery” in consolidation will further strengthen the developmental drive of the state government and guarantee economic boost in the face of the challenging times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We the government believes that our budgetary estimate should be realistically as possible. Accordingly we are proposing a total budget size of 448.7 billion for fiscal year 2021”, the governor said.
The governor noted that the budget represents more than 21 percent increase over the 2020 reversed budget of 300 billion naira only.
He went further to state that his administration from inception has always prioritised the payment of salaries and pensions while assuring the state’s civil servants, including the 5,000 proposed enlistment, will be paid their salaries in 2021 as at when due.
“Ministries, Departments and Agencies are also assured of prompt release of overheads to enable them run and deliver services to the people”. Wike promised.
According to the governor, the increase in the recurrent budget over that of 2020 is necessary for the fight against poverty with increase in public spending, social assistance and investment in targeted empowerment programs.
Ogun 2021 budget: Abiodun presents 339 billion naira spending plan
The Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun, has presented the sum of 339 billion naira appropriation bill tagged “Budget of Recovery and Sustainability” to the state house of assembly for the 2021 fiscal year.
The governor says his administration will leverage technology and automation on internally generated revenue to address revenue leakages while soliciting for the cooperation and understanding of residents to ensure the success of the budget in the fiscal year.
“Capital expenditure in year 2021 remains focused on the completion of as many ongoing projects as possible as well as commissioning of new ones”

The governor noted that his administration will ensure equity in the distribution of projects across the state while mentioning that ahead of the budget defence by MDA’s, a comprehensive list of yet to be completed projects will be drawn to ensure availability of adequate funding for completion.
“Until projects reach completion, they do not deliver the dividends of democracy that Ogun state citizens rightly deserve”, the governor said.
According to the governor, in addition to government’s spending on capital expenditure, his administration has enacted the Private-Public Partnership Law to provide a regulatory framework which will help facilitate private sector investments in the development of infrastructure in the state.
