The arrest of Nigerian artistes – Omah Lay and Tems in Uganda is unarguably the biggest entertainment story this week.
The duo have had a turbulent week from their arrest and detention at a concert in Uganda.
The fast rising stars have however gotten respite from their legal battles which ensued from their invitation to perform in an event in Kampala.
Following the event, they were arrested by the police for breaching the country’s Covid-19 guidelines. The arrest of the artistes who were immediately arraigned in court sparked controversies online from many quarters as some Nigerians demanded their immediate release.
Many other also questioned the circumstances of the arrest saying it was more than meets the eye.
The Nigerian government intervened alongside the help of Uganda’s celebrated musician, Bebe Cool, and the charges against the Nigerian singers were dropped.
The singers who returned to Nigeria on Thursday have taken time out to appreciate their fans and everyone who showed solidarity.
Kylie Jener, Kanye West tops Forbes List
Business magazine, Forbes, has released the list for the highest paid celebrities of the year 2020 with skincare mogul, Kylie Jenner and billionare rapper, Kanye West emerging top on the list.
While Jenner earned a whooping $590 million, West who is also her brother-in-law earned $170m. According to Forbes, Jenner’s pay day came from selling a 51 percent stake in her cosmetics firm to Coty in January while West made most of his earnings from his Yeezy snickers deal with Adidas.
While Jenner had exaggerated over the years about the size of her business, the money she pulled in from the deal was real enough to rank as one of the biggest celebrity cash outs of all time.
Movie Mogul, Tyler Perry came sixth on the list with $97 million while NBA superstar, Lebron James and Movie star, Dwayne Johnson came 9th and 10th on the list respectively.
Others in the list are sports celebrities such as Roger Federer, Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Forbes list ranks “front of the camera” stars around the globe using pretax earnings from June 2019 through May 2020 before deducting fees for managers, lawyers and agents.
Figures are based on information from Nielsen Music/MRC Data, Pollstar, IMDB, NPD BookScan and ComScore as well as interviews with industry experts and many of the stars themselves.
Tyler Perry 51 and Single
American actor, writer, producer and director, Tyler Perry, over the week announced his single status which has generated a lot of buzz on the social media space.
Perry posted the news across his social media platforms which has made his female fans throw romantic passes at him.
Perry in the post revealed that he is 51, single and wondering what the next chapter in his life will look like.
He also insinuated that he was going through a mid-life crisis but regardless he is interested in his journey with God while trying to be the best man and father he could possibly be.
Reports says it is unclear when Tyler Perry and his longtime girlfriend, Gelila Bekele and mother of his son ended their relationship. The revelation has caused many fans to flood his timeline with messages trying to get his attention.
In 2011, Forbes listed him as the highest-paid man in entertainment, earning US$130 million between May 2010 and May 2011.
