The terrorists responsible for the brutal killing of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, have issued a chilling demand.
They are requesting a ransom of N60 million and five motorcycles in exchange for the release of the traditional ruler’s body for burial.
Reports indicate that Alhaji Bawa was abducted and subsequently killed by the terrorists on Wednesday. Prior to his death, a disturbing video emerged, showing the traditional ruler pleading for his life and calling on the government to intervene.
Alhaji Bawa and his son were kidnapped in July while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni, the headquarters of Sabon Birni local government in Sokoto State. Initially, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N1 billion for their release.
In the video, which has been widely circulated online, the late ruler is seen speaking in Hausa, recounting the harrowing experience of his kidnapping. He made a desperate appeal for help, revealing that their lives were in grave danger and that they were suffering in the forest where they were being held captive. A gunman, heard in the background, was reportedly dictating what the victims should say, underscoring the coercion they faced.
Tragically, despite his pleas for rescue, the terrorists killed Alhaji Bawa on Wednesday. A family source disclosed that the terrorists are now withholding the body of the deceased, insisting that a ransom of N60 million and five motorcycles must be paid for its release.
“They said before they can release his corpse, we must give them N60 million and five motorcycles,” the family source confirmed, leaving the family in a distressing situation as they face the possibility of being unable to provide a proper Islamic burial for their loved one.
