A South African mine worker, Boinehelo Lefefa (43) is accused of stabbing his colleague at Sibanye-Stillwater to death in the glare of the public before lying beside his corpse to take a picture.
Lefefa attacked and killed his colleague, Alcino Macovo, in November, 2023 at the parking lot of the Sibanye-Stillwater company in Johannesburg. The attack was caught on camera.
In a video seen by REPORT AFRIQUE, Lefefa stabbed Macovo severally before disembowelling him and trying to behead him. He later posed beside his corpse and took a selfie with his phone.
The shaft timber assistant was said to be aggrieved following an incident between and Dinger in June that left Lefefa badly injured in the eye. Lefefa’s efforts to get the authority at Stillwater to look into the matter ended in his sack while Macovo continued working. This angered Lefefa, leading to him attacking and stabbing Macovo to death.
Boinehelo Lefefa appeared in the Westonaria magistrate’s court on in November. The case was adjourned and Lefefa is expected to make a formal bail application.
A representative of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in the same shaft said Lefefa was on sick leave for quite some time and when he returned to work he and Macovo were apparently given final warnings.
Lefefa contested the company’s decision and complained to the union that he was not treated fairly during the disciplinary hearing. The NUM representative alleged the company did not take enough steps to resolve the matter amicably and offer reconciliation services.
Lefefa and Macovo allegedly continued to work in the same shaft while tensions continued to simmer between them.
“The company has social workers and when there is conflict among employees they are called to facilitate rehabilitation. Despite the case of these two workers being serious, the social worker was not called. The company failed to adequately intervene. The situation ended brutally in a way that nobody anticipated because the company was too latent,” he said.
