Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government is set to commission parts of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway by May 2025, according to the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.
In a statement released by his media aide, Orji Uchenna Orji, the minister disclosed that four “Renewed Hope” legacy projects, alongside ongoing inherited infrastructure projects across the six geopolitical zones, are progressing steadily and are on track for completion.
“Work is progressing on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. The Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is also advancing. In Sokoto, the first 120 km section has been procured, and work is being carried out by Hitech using concrete,” Umahi explained.
He added, “Similarly, the Kebbi section, spanning 250 km, is under construction. We are confident that approximately 20 km from each section will be ready for commissioning by May 29, 2025. For the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in the Southwest, we plan to commission 20 km from section one and 10 km from section two.”
The minister praised President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to funding critical infrastructure projects despite significant investments in other priority sectors of the economy.
Umahi also highlighted that the four legacy projects include train tracks as an integral component, with work on some sections scheduled to begin in 2025.
The commissioning is expected to mark a significant milestone in the federal government’s infrastructural development agenda.
