Hoodlums Attack Akwa Ibom Electoral Office, Set Part of Building Ablaze

Akwa Ibom, Nigeria — Suspected hoodlums have set the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) office in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area on fire.

The incident, confirmed by the state’s Police Command, has raised concerns over a possible attempt to disrupt the ongoing local government elections in the state. However, the police have assured the public that election materials were not affected, and the exercise is continuing as scheduled.

Speaking on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, stated, “Some hoodlums partially set the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom ablaze, but the election materials remained intact. The election is also ongoing.”

ASP John further disclosed that security has been reinforced at all AKISIEC offices and other strategic locations across the state to prevent any recurrence.

He reiterated that the police are committed to ensuring the elections proceed smoothly without any further disruption.
