Rivers state based upcoming musician, late Daniel “Sleek” Ikeaguchi, 20, killed by a trigger-happy police officer on the 19th of September, 2020 in Port Harcourt will be buried on December 21, a family source told REPORT AFRIQUE.
According to the source, the family has fixed his burial on December 21 in his home town in Ezinihitte Mbaise local government area of Imo state.
REPORT AFRIQUE broke the news of his death in September and followed up with a video interview with family members and friends at his residence in Port Harcourt.
Daniel Ikeaguchi, popularly known as Sleek was shot and killed in Elelenwo area of Port Harcourt by a policeman stationed at a popular supermarket after he was chased by another set of policemen when he visited a friend identified as Reuben who resides in the area.
Sleek’s death contributed to the recent #EndSARS protests that later spread across Nigeria and the parts of the world.
Court Rules that Police Compensates Family with N50m
The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, in November, ordered the Nigeria Police Force to pay N50 million as compensation to the family of Daniel Ikeagwuchi (Sleek).
Sleek’s family had dragged the police; Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Adamu, the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan; and two others (officers) to court in a suit it filed to enforce the fundamental human rights of the deceased.
The family had prayed the court to declare the killing of their son unlawful and to award N1bn as compensation.
