Three individuals have tragically lost their lives in a devastating Lagos gas explosion that rocked Abule Pan, situated along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Ibeju Lekki Local Area.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:34pm on Tuesday, as a 50kg Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cylinder exploded at the frontage of a row of shops in the area.

Margaret Adeseye, Director/CEO of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, confirmed the incident, stating that the explosion involved an industrial gas cylinder assembled at the front of the shops. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang followed by balls of fire engulfing the surroundings, sparking panic and chaos in the vicinity.

Responding swiftly to the emergency, the Lekki Phase II Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, alongside Health Environment officials, military personnel, Federal Road Safety Corps officials, and representatives from the Ibeju Lekki Local Government, collaborated to combat the inferno.

Adeseye emphasized that the mishandling of the gas cylinder led to the explosion, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives and leaving one person injured. Efforts are underway to address the aftermath of the incident and to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected community.
