Vice President Shettima Departs Abuja for UN General Assembly in New York

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for New York to represent Nigeria at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Vice President Shettima is expected back to the country on the 29th of September.

Abuja, Nigeria – Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for New York to represent Nigeria at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Vice President’s trip, which took place on Sunday, comes at the request of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, it was disclosed that President Tinubu assigned Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the global event as the President remains focused on pressing domestic matters, including the recent flood disaster affecting the country.

At the UNGA session, which will run from September 24 to 28, 2024, the Vice President is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement. Additionally, he will participate in several key meetings and engage in bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the event.

The high-level General Debate of the assembly is themed ‘Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.’
