The Federal Government has greenlit the disbursement of N25 billion to bolster the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, affirmed the government’s unwavering dedication to overhauling the healthcare system to achieve Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) for all Nigerians.
In an official statement released by ministry spokesperson Deworitshe Patricia in Abuja on Sunday, Pate emphasized the pivotal role of a sector-wide approach (SWAp) and the Health Sector Renewal Investment Programme (NHSRIP) in driving health transformation and accessibility.
Pate highlighted the urgent need for reform in the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), its operational framework, and accountability systems to fortify public trust and improve healthcare delivery nationwide.
The minister underscored the revision of guidelines to encompass health services for the indigent population, with a specific focus on reducing maternal mortality rates, and out-of-pocket expenses, and enhancing healthcare standards across primary facilities.
Pate articulated, “The Ministry, alongside its development partners, is committed to ensuring accessible healthcare services for all Nigerians, particularly women, children, and vulnerable groups, aligning with the objectives of NHSRIP.”
The overarching goal is to minimize the necessity for patients to undertake lengthy journeys for medical care, thereby enhancing the quality and equity of healthcare delivery and overall well-being for Nigerians.
