Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk have engaged in a heated war of words, with both challenging each other to a fight.
The President, who has been accused of electoral fraud, called out Musk during a speech, saying, “Elon Musk, whoever messes with me, dries up. Whoever messes with Venezuela dries up, Elon Musk. You want to fight? Let’s have it, Elon. I’m ready… I am not afraid of you.”
Musk, who has been a vocal critic of Maduro’s regime, accepted the challenge, saying, “I accept… He will chicken out.”
The feud between the two has been escalating, with the President accusing Musk of being behind “attacks against Venezuela” and possibly masterminding an alleged “computer hacking” at the National Electoral Council.
Musk has denied the allegations, calling Maduro a “dictator” and saying, “Shame on Dictator Maduro” and “What a travesty.”
Following a meeting with his top political and military advisors on Tuesday, Venezuelan President announced the establishment of a special committee, assisted by experts from Russia and China, to assess the country’s biosecurity and investigate the alleged attack on the National Electoral Council’s (CNE) communication systems.
The war of words has sparked outrage, with Maduro supporters calling for action against Musk and Musk’s fans praising him for standing up to the Venezuelan leader.
The situation remains tense, with no clear resolution in sight.
