Entertainment Television – NBC Universal International Networks’ global, multi-platform brand dedicated to all things pop culture today announced that voting is open for the 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards, celebrating all forms of entertainment and chosen entirely by the fans.
E! is engaging fans worldwide to vote in over 40 categories across TV, music, movies and pop culture. The voting window will run through 23 October, on www.pca.eonline.com/af or Twitter.
For the second time in the history of the ceremony, the E! People’s Choice Awards has once again opened a category dedicated to Africa African Social Star of 2020 with eight contenders in the running. Last year, Bonang Mathebe scooped up the coveted title of African Influencer of 2019.
In the race to be crowned the African Social Star of 2020 from Ghana, African Movie Academy Award winning actress Lydia Forson, South Africa is social media star and model Karl Kugelmann; rapper, actress and poet Sho Madjozi; International Emmy Award nominee and actress Thuso Mbedu; magician and TikTok star Wian van den Berg and reigning Miss Universe Zozi Tunzi. Nominated from across the continent are Nigerian YouTube phenomenon Dimma Umeh; Kenyan comedian and internet sensation Elsa Majimbo.
Speaking about their nominations:
Lydia Forson: “I have gone from watching E! News to being ‘THE NEWS’. If this isn’t what dreams are made of, I don’t know what is.”
Managing Director, MultiChoice Ghana, Cecil Sunkwa Mills could not hide his elation on Lydia’s nomination for this award. He adds “we are excited on this announcement and encourage fans to vote actively for Lydia Forson to be crowned with this honour, her nomination goes to confirm her exceptional talent and we at MultiChoice Ghana salute her”.
Official voting is open until 23 October. Fans can vote up to 25 times per day, per category, per method (voting website and Twitter). On 15 October, the votes will count as double, equalling up to a maximum of 50 votes per category, per voting method.
For Twitter votes: posts must be public to count. Posts count as a vote if the category hashtag (#AfricanSocialStar) and a corresponding nominee hashtag are used together in the same post. For example:
