Oyigbo Crisis: "I will never allow criminals to operate in my state" - Nyesom Wike

The Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said he will never allow criminal elements evade his state while reacting to the ongoing Oyigbo crisis.

The governor stated this at a meeting with some South East governors and members of the Apex socio-cultural organization of the Igbos, Ohaneze Ndigbo, to look at a final resolution to the recent crisis involving the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in the Rivers State.

At the meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Wike went further to state that:

“Nobody should give Igbo people a bad name. Igbos are very entrepreneurial. Igbos are very innovative. There cannot be Nigeria without Igbos

In attendance at the meeting was the governor of Ebonyi State, Governor Dave Umahi.

Governor Umahi called on everyone to be wise in resolving the Oyigbo crisis and stated that the South East governors do not support mandatory annex of territories.

Also speaking at the meeting, Chief John Nwodo, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo.

Nwodo who had earlier blamed the outcome of the Oyigbo crisis on the unguarded statements made by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on the EndSARS protests in Nigeria, particularly on Rivers State stated that the meeting is an important step towards a creation of affinity, brotherhood and cordiality between Ndigbo and Rivers State as well as the entire Niger Delta region.

Nwodo highlighted that the issues in the country applies to everyone and the attitude towards solving these issues must apply to everyone.

Nwodo had earlier stated that the Oyigbo crisis was a serious threat to the existing relationship between South east and South south. The President General of the umbrella Igbo organization, had earlier made this remarks reacting to the killings of the Igbo in Rivers State.

He further thanked the governor of Rivers State for his attitude towards solving the crisis and the numerous problems that plague the entire nation.

Also at the meeting was the Executive Governor of Abia state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
