The Defence Headquarters has announced the anticipated visit of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to Nigeria in May 2024.

The royal couple is set to discuss matters concerning the Invictus Games, an initiative spearheaded by Prince Harry aimed at aiding the rehabilitation of wounded and sick servicemembers and veterans.

In a statement released on Sunday, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, expressed the headquarters’ “honour and delight” for the royal couple’s acceptance of the invitation.

Prince Harry and Meghan will meet with the stakeholders of the Defence Headquarters and other relevant individuals before leaving the country.

The Invictus Games, an international multi-sporting event founded by Prince Harry, serves as a platform for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel to embark on a recovery pathway.

With the last outing boasting 500 participants from 21 nations, including Nigeria, which secured Gold and Bronze medals, the visit aims to strengthen Nigeria’s involvement in the games and evaluate the chances of hosting the competition in the future.

Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, the Honourable Minister of Defence, who attended last year’s Invictus Games in Germany, has already expressed Nigeria’s willingness to host the games when the opportunity arises.

Stay tuned for further updates as preparations for the royal visit unfold.
