PDP Governors Demand Rescheduling of NEC Meeting to March 13

The PDP governors commended the Nigerian armed forces and security agencies for their continued efforts in tackling insecurity across the country, acknowledging the gains made against banditry and other security threats.

Asaba, Nigeria – Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum, to reschedule the long-awaited National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to March 13, 2025.

The PDP Governors Forum, in a communique read by its chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, also declared support for Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary. The governors further endorsed the recent Court of Appeal ruling, urging the NWC to implement its decisions effectively.

The NEC meeting has been postponed multiple times under Damagum’s leadership. The last NEC gathering, held on April 18, 2024, failed to resolve the issue of appointing a substantive party chairman from the North-Central zone to replace Damagum and complete the tenure of former chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu. A follow-up meeting was initially scheduled for August 15, 2024, but was later moved to October 24 and subsequently to November 28 before being postponed indefinitely.

Among the governors present at the meeting were Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Diri Douye (Bayelsa). Others included Peter N. Mbah (Enugu), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Oyo State Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal.

The PDP leadership is now expected to take a decision on the governors’ request as the party navigates internal challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
