In a bid to safeguard Rivers State’s economy from the menace of oil theft, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged unwavering support to the Nigeria Navy’s efforts.

During a recent courtesy visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara emphasized the imperative of preventing any activities that could undermine the state’s economic stability.

Accompanied by senior Navy officials, including Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the visit saw discussions centered on intensifying the fight against oil theft in the region.

Governor Fubara commended the Navy’s achievements in combating crude oil theft and assured continued support from the state government, both morally and logistically.

Highlighting the strategic advantage of Rivers State’s riverine terrain, Governor Fubara encouraged the Navy to transfer more facilities to the state. He also urged Rear Admiral Ogalla to step up efforts in curbing waterway crimes, stressing the navy’s pivotal role during national crises.

Rear Admiral Ogalla disclosed the Navy’s decision to relocate the headquarters of its training command from Lagos to Rivers State. The headquarters will be situated at the Ambassador Nne Furo Kurubo Model Secondary School in Eleme, a facility donated by the state government.

Additionally, the Naval Training College in Onne, Eleme LGA, will be relocated to the new facility.

Speaking on recent naval operations, Rear Admiral Ogalla highlighted the success of Operation Delta Sanity, initiated following the President’s directive in January.

The operation has resulted in the arrest of over 14 large crude-carrying vessels and numerous suspected crude oil thieves since its inception. Furthermore, multinational companies have acknowledged the Navy’s efforts, leading to enhancements in crude transportation through underground pipelines.

Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the interests and safety of the state’s residents amidst ongoing political unrest, emphasizing that genuine development thrives in a peaceful environment.

With collaborative efforts between the state government and the Nigeria Navy, the fight against oil theft in Rivers State is expected to gain momentum.
